Police respond to alleged threat at Mayflower Mall

Cape Breton Regional Police responded to the Mayflower Mall at approximately 4:00 PM, after reports that a message was received indicating a bomb threat.
Staff evacuated the mall while police searched the building and later cleared it with no risk to public safety.

Police investigating assault

Cape Breton Regional Police are looking for help to identify a person involved in a March 3rd assault at the intersection of George and Prince Streets in Sydney.
Police were called to the area at approximately 1:20 PM, where witnesses indicated a man had been punched and kicked by another man who then walked away up Prince Street; officers patrolled the area and were unable to locate anyone matching his description. The male victim was transported by EHS to Cape Breton Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, where he remains now in stable condition.
Through further investigation, police have obtained video surveillance of the assault and are looking for the second person involved, who is described as a man in his 30s who was wearing a grey jacket and blue camouflage pants. Deceased person located in Sydney

Cape Breton Regional Police investigators located a deceased female in the area of Glenwood Street in Sydney Tuesday afternoon, March 11th, as part of ongoing investigation into a reported missing person.
Members of the Forensic Identification Unit examined the scene; there is nothing to indicate foul play is a factor in this death, and the deceased has been referred to the Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy to confirm the cause of death. The person’s identity will not be released at this time, pending completion of the Medical Examiner’s work and notification of next of kin.
