Public requests for Criminal Record Checks, Vulnerable Sector Checks, access to information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Fingerprinting Services and copies of police reports can be made in-person at the Myles F. Burke Police Headquarters (865 Grand Lake Road, Sydney).
Customer Service hours for the public are from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
Payment is accepted only by debit card at our counters; if required, cash payments can be arranged through the Customer Service Centre at CBRM City Hall.
Criminal Record Check
A Criminal Record Check must be conducted in person at the Myles F. Burke Police Headquarters (865 Grand Lake Road, Sydney).
One piece of government-issued photo ID (ie. driver’s license) is required, in addition to a fee of $30 payable at the time of application.
When requested for volunteer purposes, a Criminal Record Check is free if you provide a letter of confirmation from a not-for-profit agency confirming you as a volunteer.
Please allow 7 days to process a Criminal Record Check, after which time you can return to Police Headquarters for pick-up.
Access to Information Request
Under Part XX of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), everyone has a right of access to most recorded information held by a municipality.
To file an access to information request, you must fill our an Access to Information Application. Submit your completed form, along with a $5.00 application fee, in-person or by mail (cheque payable to the Cape Breton Regional Police Service):
