Cape Breton Regional Police, with assistance from Cape Breton Ground Search and Rescue, Cape Breton Regional Fire Services, EHS and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Helicopter, rescued a lost person from a wooded and swampy area on Kilkenny Lake Road Saturday night.
Police were called for help at approximately 7:30 PM after the 18-year-old called family to alert them he was lost. Using the Drone and GPS coordinates, officers equipped with night vision moved through miles of thick woods, snow and water for several hours to get to the exact location of the person, who they found to be suffering considerable frostbite. They carried him to a staging point to meet EHS, where they started a fire and treated the man on scene until the helicopter arrived to lift him out and transport to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
The man is expected to make a full recovery; police thank all involved for their tremendous efforts to bring him to safety.
