On January 27, 2025, the Cape Breton Regional Police Service responded to the 300 block of the Esplanade in Sydney where members of the Street Crime, Community Safety Enforcement and K-9 Units, as well as the Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Police seized two firearms, ammunition, 40 grams of cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia; two men were arrested.
Christian Nichol (44)(Sydney) is charged with 21 offences, which include CDSA, Firearm offences, and breaches. Ryan Reynolds (22)(Sydney Mines) is charged with 15 offences, which include CDSA, Firearm offences, and breaches. Both appeared in Sydney Provincial Court on January 28, 2025.
