The quick actions of three Cape Breton Regional Police officers saved a man from a house fire this morning in Sydney Mines.

Police responded to a call from Pond Road at approximately 3:20 AM, from a resident requesting help to get out of a house on fire. On arrival, officers found the man stuck, trying to get out an upstairs window; flames prevented them from accessing the house through a door, but they spotted an extension ladder nearby, which they used to access the porch roof directly under the man’s window. Officers broke the window and pulled the man out, leading him down the ladder to safety. At this same time, Sydney Mines Fire Services arrived on scene and extinguished the fire, which they deemed not suspicious.

The man received minor injuries from the broken window and was treated on scene by EHS.
