Cape Breton Regional Police have a 15-year-old in custody after a teacher at Sydney Academy saw what was believed to be a gun inside a student’s backpack.
The student ran from the teacher and left the school, at which time the teach reported the incident to the School Liaison Officer on site. Additional officers responded to the school at approximately 1:15 PM, which Administration placed in a precautionary hold and secure while police looked for the student, who they quickly located at a residence in Sydney at approximately 2:00 PM. He was arrested without incident and the school was cleared for safety.
There were no threats made towards the school, or any individuals and police have confirmed that the weapon in the student’s backpack was an air-soft replica gun. Charges are pending.
