A 25-year-old will face a charge for Public Mischief, after making a false call for police assistance.

At approximately 7:00 AM on January 1st, Cape Breton Regional Police responded to a 9-1-1 call for a shooting; the caller disconnected after making the report, but dispatch operators were able to determine the person registered to the phone number, as well as an address where the call came from on Lingan Road. Officers contained the area around the residence and members of the Emergency Response Team were called to the scene. After several attempts to make contact with the person who made the call, police approached the property, located the residents and determined there was no shooting and no risk to safety; officers then located the person who made the call, and after further investigation, confirmed that the complaint of the shooting was false.

The individual was arrested and later released on a Promise to Appear in Sydney Provincial Court at a later date, charged with Public Mischief for reporting an offence that had not been committed.
