A 54-year-old man faces charges after reports that a person was in possession of a knife inside an office building on Prince Street in Sydney.
Cape Breton Regional Police responded at approximately 8:40 AM, where they located a man inside a room on the 2nd floor, holding a knife; he was alone in the room, and officers quickly contained the surrounding area while evacuating all occupants from the second floor to ensure no risk to public safety.
Members of the Emergency Response Team joined the scene and Crisis Negotiators successfully encouraged the man to surrender his knife to police and exit the room at approximately 10:15 AM, when he was arrested without incident.
John Joseph Meade is remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre, charged with Possession of a Weapon, Uttering Threats (x2), Assault (Threatening Use) with a Weapon and Mischief (x 2) (Damage to Property and Obstruction of Business Operations).
