Cape Breton Regional Police have charged the driver in a fatal motor vehicle collision on Kings Road in Howie Centre.
Connell Jason Macarthur will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on April 8, 2025, charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death, Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm, Criminal Negligence Causing Death, Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Liability Insurance. The charges result from an extensive investigation by the Traffic Safety Unit, including collision reconstruction and forensic evidence.
Police were originally called to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover just after 11:00 PM on November 9th. Two passengers were ejected from the vehicle and the driver trapped inside; with assistance from Cape Breton Regional Fire Services and EHS, all three were taken to Cape Breton Regional Hospital, where the female passenger was pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries.
