A 30-year-old man faces several charges after Cape Breton Regional Police caught him attempting to drive away from a motor vehicle collision Saturday morning, January 4th.
Officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Keltic Drive near Westmount Road just before 9:00 AM. The driver of one vehicle had left the scene of the collision, which officers found traveling damaged on Keltic Drive and attempted to stop; the driver initially ignored police, but his vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the road, where officers were able to place him under arrest as he was attempting to drive away again. Noting signs of impairment, officers also requested breath samples, both of which registered over the legal limit.
Alexander Kirk Musgrave is charged with Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle, Failure to Stop after an Accident, Flight from Police, Impaired Operation of a Vehicle and Impaired Operation over 80 mg%; he is also charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Cocaine, which was seized during a search of his vehicle, along with other drug paraphernalia.
