The man arrested from an assault Friday night, after which the victim died as a result of his injuries, is scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court today.
Cape Breton Regional Police charged 49-year-old Jason Owen Caines with Manslaughter.
Officers originally responded to reports of an unconscious male near the intersection of Duke and State Streets shortly before midnight on May 10th; a 51-year-old man with serious injuries was transported by EHS to Cape Breton Regional Hospital where he later died. The suspect was arrested a short time after the incident and later remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre until his Court appearance.
Police can confirm the two men are known to each other and this is an isolated incident.
