During patrols on the Mira River Saturday, police stopped and checked approximately 20 boats, issuing a variety of tickets for violations including: no proof of competency to operate a boat, not carrying a registration for the boat and not meeting on-board safety requirements. Fines for Saturday’s violations totaled just over $1400.00.

Police also charged one driver for Operating a Vessel while Impaired.

Police remind boaters that everyone who operates a motorized pleasure craft must carry proof of competency and be aware of all safety requirements and regulations for their specific boat – for example, the appropriate number and size of lifejackets and navigational lights. Further information on the regulations for minimum safety requirements and other important details for boat users are available at www.boatingsafety.ca.

The Marine Unit will continue to patrol waterways throughout the duration of summer on boat and Sea-Doo, in addition to extra enforcement on the water to assist with special events.
