On Saturday, May 31st, youth runners will depart the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion at 10:00 AM; from there, they head north on the Esplanade to Ortona Street, east to George Street, south to Dorchester Street, west to the Esplanade and then north along the Esplanade back to the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion.
The Esplanade – between Ortona Drive and Dorchester Street – will be closed to traffic from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, and motorists will be reduced to one lane of traffic on both Dorchester Street and George Street during the same time period.
On Sunday, June 1st, runners will depart depart the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion at 10:00 AM; from there, they head North on the Esplanade and into the Open Hearth Park Trail. Runners in the 5K race will turn and retrace their route back to the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion, while 10K runners will continue to Terminal Rd, Inglis St., and on to Stable Dr. to the running track at the Harbourside Park before retracing their route back to the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion.
For Sunday’s run route, Ferry Street will be closed at the bridge to local traffic only, from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM.
Cape Breton Regional Police will be patrolling both routes, with extra traffic detail in place. Officers, volunteer course marshals and CBRM crossing guards will also be present at key points along the routes, along with barricades and signage to redirect motorists.
There is no parking on site; participants and spectators are advised to arrive early and park as far away from the Start/Finish line as possible, to alleviate congestion. Limited free parking is available at CBRM waterfront parking lots and at Casino Nova Scotia.
