Scam 3 - Estate Scam
If you receive a letter from someone claiming to be a lawyer for a deceased person who has left money to your name, be cautious. It is likely a scam.
The lawyer might claim the deceased person is a distant relative of yours and ask you to contact him to make arrangements to receive the money. When you phone the number provided, the supposed lawyer might ask you to provide a social insurance number and date of birth; this is personal information that you should not share with an unknown person.
If you receive a similar letter, please be cautious and don't hesitate to contact police who may have further information.
