Police investigating motor vehicle rollover

March 1, 2017

Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating a single vehicle rollover on Johnson Road in North Sydney, at approximately 11:30 PM on February 28th.

While traveling on King Street, a patrol officer observed a vehicle traveling west towards Highway 125 at a high rate of speed. The officer activated emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle, which then proceeded to travel out of sight of the officer beyond the Highway 125 overpass, at which time the officer turned off his emergency equipment. He continued driving in an attempt to find the vehicle, locating it on Johnson Road where it had overturned.

All three male occupants were outside of the vehicle; two were transported to Cape Breton Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where the driver remains for further treatment of serious injuries to his hand.

The driver showed signs of impairment; the Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate with assistance from the Forensic Identification Unit. The vehicle has been seized, and charges are pending.

Because there was an attempted police stop of the vehicle and the driver sustained injuries, the incident has also been referred to SiRT for investigation.
