At approximately 07:00am the Cape Breton Regional Police Service responded to the report of an Armed Robbery that had just occurred at the NEEDS Store, 719 George Street in Sydney.

Upon arrival, police learned a lone male entered the store armed with a weapon and demanded money from the clerk. The lone male then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

There were two other customers in the store at the time, however, no one was injured.

Patrol Members were on scene within minutes and located and arrested a suspect a short distance from the store.

As a result, a 28 year old James Anthony MacDonald of Sydney was charged with Armed Robbery, Disguise with Intent (for having his face covered while committing an offence), and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

Patrol Officers were assisted by the CBRPS K9 Unit, and the CBRPS Forensic Identification Section
