Police fine driver for excessive speed

May 10, 2018

A 29-year-old Glace Bay driver was charged with Stunting after a Cape Breton Regional Police patrol officer caught his vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on the Louisbourg Highway yesterday evening. Radar clocked the Honda Accord at a speed of 152 km/hr in a 90 km/hr zone. Upon stopping the driver, the officer also discovered he was driving without valid insurance.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act, the Stunting charge carries a fine of $2, 422.50; the driver’s license was also immediately suspended and his vehicle seized for a period of 7 days. For operating a vehicle without insurance, the man was issued a Summary Offence ticket carrying a fine of $1272.50.

Speed remains one of the leading causes of collisions; if you see unsafe driving on our roadways, please contact police at 902-563-5151 or 9-1-1.
