Police charge two youth for stolen vehicle

While on patrol on George Street at approximately 6:00 AM October 1st, Cape Breton Regional Police observed a truck drive through a red light at the intersection of Prince Street, traveling at a high rate of speed. Police activated emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, which continued at high speed through a second red light at the intersection of Dorechester Street towards Victoria park, at which time police ended the pursuit for safety. Police continued to follow the vehicle from a distance, through the North end of downtown Sydney, eventually blocking the roadway on the Esplanade, where the female driver attempted to flee the vehicle. Police quickly arrested her and the female passenger.

Further investigation verified the vehicle as stolen; police also located other stolen items in the passenger’s possession. The vehicle – a 2014 Dodge Ram – and the items, taken from inside, were returned to their owners.

Both girls were remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre last night, to appear in Court today. The driver is charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Theft Over $5,000, and the passenger is charged with Theft over $5,000 and Theft Under $5,000.
