Police charge man for vehicle, house fire

August 3, 2018

A 22-year-old Sydney man will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today in connection to the July 28th fire in Membertou.   Charles Joseph Young is charged with Arson, Theft and a Breach of Probation.

Cape Breton Regional Police originally responded to reports of the vehicle fire on Kitpu Crescent at 6:44 AM on July 28th, where members of Cape Breton Regional Fire were on scene; the fire had also spread to the residence where the vehicle was parked. No one was injured.

The fire was immediately deemed suspicious; through investigation, including evidence collected at the scene and surrounding area, as well as witness information, Arson investigators were able to connect Young to the fire. He was arrested yesterday, August 3rd.
