Police charge man for fire at Bras d’Or business

April 27, 2018

A 54-year-old Sydney Mines man will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today in connection to the weekend fire at Scott MacNeil Motors on Villa Drive in Bras d’Or.

Phillip Raymond Leblanc is charged with Arson, Possession of an Incendiary Material, Possession of a Break-In Instrument and Wearing a Disguise with Intent.

Cape Breton Regional Police originally responded the fire just after 10:00 PM on April 21st, where members of the Florence Volunteer Fire Department were on scene. The fire was immediately deemed suspicious; through investigation, including evidence collected at the scene and surrounding area, as well as information from people in the area before and after the incident, police were able to connect Leblanc to the fire. Officers arrested him yesterday, April 26th, and he remained in police custody overnight.

Police continue to investigate the earlier suspicious fire of several travel trailers at this same location; anyone with information is asked to contact police at 902-563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
