Police charge man for aggravated assault

October 2, 2018

A 23-year-old man from Reserve Mines will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today, in connection to an incident outside the Jacques Cartier Hotel on Grand Lake Road Monday morning.

Daren Joseph MacGillivary is charged with Aggravated Assault. He was arrested Monday morning at approximately 6:30 AM, when Cape Breton Regional Police responded to reports that an injured man was on the ground in the parking lot. Officers located the victim and EHS transported the 81-year-old man to Cape Breton Regional Hospital; he was later airlifted to Halifax for further treatment of on-life-threatening, but serious injuries to his face.

Based on information at the scene, officers arrested MacGillivary, who was also located in the hotel parking lot, for assaulting the man; after further investigation by the Major Crime and Forensic Identification Units, police remanded MacGillivary to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre Monday night with a charge of Aggravated Assault.
