May 19, 2017
A 58-year-old Sydney Mines woman will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today, facing charges for two armed robberies Thursday afternoon.
Cape Breton Regional Police were called to a residence on King Street in Sydney Mines at approximately 2:00 PM, where a female resident reported another female had come to her door with a weapon, demanding money and then ran away towards Main Street. While on scene, police received reports of a second armed robbery at a business on Main Street. Within moments, police located a woman matching the suspect description running up King Street with a knife and quickly placed her under arrest.
Through further investigation, and with assistance from the Forensic Identification Unit, Major Crime investigators were able to confirm the female suspect as responsible for both incidents; she is charged with Armed Robbery (x2), Assault (x2), Uttering Threats and Forcible Entry.
Police also seized the weapon and stolen goods. No one was injured as a result of this incident.
The accused was held in police custody overnight until her Court appearance.
