A customer had been driving in the restaurant parking lot when a red Pontiac car struck her vehicle from behind. She was not injured but her vehicle sustained damage to its bumper and truck lid. The Pontiac also hit another vehicle and left the scene but a description and license plate number were obtained and provided to police who quickly located it on Grand Lake Rd. It had sustained significant damage and the 43-year-old male driver from Glace Bay had minor injuries. He was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving, Driving in Excess of 80 mg, Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident and two counts of Breach of Undertaking. He was held in police custody and will appear in Sydney Provincial court this morning.
Police encourage the public to report impaired drivers and remind motorists not to drink and drive.
