At approximately 4:20 PM, police responded to the corner of Sidella Dr. and Reeves Street in Sydney, where there is currently road construction underway. Police were advised that the driver a vehicle was directed by a Traffic Control worker to stop as he was not permitted to drive through that area of road construction.  The driver did not obey the directions and instead, accelerated his vehicle, thus striking the worker and leaving the scene.

EHS transported the worker to Cape Breton Regional Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Witnesses on scene provided police with a license plate number for the vehicle, which was located a short distance from the scene. The driver was arrested without incident.

Members of the Traffic Safety Unit and Patrol Unit are investigating; charges are pending.
