Man facing assault charges

November 14, 2016

A 30-year-old Glace Bay man will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today for an assault over the weekend. James Russell Mauger is charged with Forcible Entre, Assault, Assault with a Weapon and a Breach of Probation.

At approximately 3:45 AM on Sunday morning, November 13th, Cape Breton Regional Police responded to a complaint that a man had entered a Bruce Street residence and assaulted a male occupant. The two men are known to each other.

Upon arrival, police learned the suspect and victim took the fight outside into the driveway at which time the accused is alleged to have struck the victim with his vehicle, a Dodge van, before fleeing the scene. The 32-year-old was transported by EHS to Cape Breton Regional Hospital and later air lifted to hospital in Halifax where he remains in stable condition.

Police quickly located the van and accused at a residence on Macleod’s Road, where police arrested him and seized the vehicle.

Major Crime investigators, with assistance from the Forensic Identification Unit and patrol officers, later charged Mauger who was remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre Sunday evening, until his Court appearance.
