Cape Breton Regional Police arrested the man yesterday evening, after responding to reports of a Jeep Cherokee hitting a tree on Victoria Road, at approximately 7:15 PM. Witnesses saw the driver leave the scene of the accident and police quickly located a suspect matching their description, walking on the Victoria Road overpass. The man showed signs of impairment and police made the arrest.

Further investigation confirmed the vehicle had been stolen a few minutes earlier from the Boston Pizza parking lot on Prince Street, and that several items police had found in the suspect’s possession were in fact taken from inside the vehicle.

The man was held in police custody overnight, to be charged with Impaired Driving, Failing a Breathalyzer, Taking a Motor Vehicle without Consent, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and a Breach of Probation.
