Dangerous, impaired driver faces multiple charges
October 19, 2018
A 32-year-old man from Westmount will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today after an early-morning pursuit in Sydney.
Cape Breton Regional Police responded to reports that a car had struck other vehicles on Cornishtown Road and then took off towards St. Peter’s Road. Officers located the vehicle on St. Peter’s Road, but the driver did not stop for police and instead continued at a high rate of speed toward Ashby Road and then George Street, failing to stop for signage at all intersections. Officers came upon the vehicle in a bush on a George Street sidewalk, where the driver had stopped and run away. A K-9 team tracked the driver to where he was trying to hide in the backyard area of a nearby residence; he continued to resist police, but officers were able to arrest him, at which time they observed signs of impairment.
The man remains in police custody, facing charges of: Impaired Driving, Failure to Provide a Sample, Failure to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, Resisting a Peace Officer, Assault with a Weapon, Mischief, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from a Police Officer, Driving while License Revoked, Driving a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, and Operating an Unregistered Vehicle.
