Jacob Mackenzie Barrie is charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Making Available Child Pornography; the charges come as the result of an ongoing investigation by the Cape Breton Regional Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, regarding alleged offences in April of 2014.
Investigation led police to a residence in North Sydney, where the accused was living at the time; they executed a search warrant on November 27th, 2014, seizing 3 computers.
With assistance from the Kennebecasis Regional Police and RCMP ICE Unit in Saint John, New Brunswick, CBRPS investigators arrested Barrie in Rothesay, NB yesterday – December 11th – where he currently resides.
Barrie was released, with conditions, on a Promise to Appear in Sydney Provincial Court on June 9, 2015.
The CBRPS ICE Unit investigations internet-based crimes against children, including offences such as accessing, possessing, making and distributing child pornography, as well as the luring of children over the internet for a sexual purpose. ICE investigators also specialize in conducting forensic examination and analysis of computers, electronic storage devices, cell phones and other mobile electronic devices.
