Police originally responded to reports of a suicidal male at the Kings Road residence just before 11:00 PM on January 15th. The man refused police entrance and would not communicate with officers on scene. Police contained the area and members of the Emergency Response Team and a Crisis Negotiator were called to assist. After several attempts at negotiation, a lack of response from the man and concern for his well-being, police forced their way through the door of the residence at approximately 6:30 AM this morning; they located the man unconscious and with a loaded rifle lying beside him, but he did not harm himself with the weapon.

Once police deemed the residence safe, EHS entered to transport the male to Cape Breton Regional Hospital for further treatment.

Members from the Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Section continue to investigate.
