A homeowner approached a man who he noticed attempting to get into his locked vehicle, resulting in an altercation where the male suspect assaulted and stabbed the owner of the vehicle before fleeing the area. Police quickly located and arrested the suspect - a 20-year-old Sydney resident - near Hospital and Atlantic Streets, still in possession of the knife he used to attack the man on Columbia Street.

The 60-year-old victim was treated for his injuries at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and later released. Members of the Major Crime and Forensic Identification Units were called to assist with the investigation, later charging Colin James Macinnis in connection to the incident. He was remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre until a scheduled Court appearance Monday, March 3rd, when he'll face charges of: Assault with a Weapon, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public and Trespassing at Night.

Police encourage citizens to contact police if they notice any suspicious persons or vehicles in and around their neighbourhoods.
