At approximately 3:00 AM on August 10th, Cape Breton Regional Police responded to West Street in North Sydney to the report of a male trying to gain entry into a garage.
Three 15-year-old youths were sleeping in the garage when they heard someone attempting to gain entry. The youths chased the suspect down the road, caught up to him and knocked him down. The suspect then slashed at one of the youths with a weapon causing a non-life threatening injury to the youth’s arm, before fleeing the scene.
The injured youth was taken to Cape Breton Regional Hospital for treatment and was later released.
From information provided by the youths, police were able to identify a suspect, who was later arrested without incident. Gregory Paul Forrest is charged with Assault with a Weapon, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Trespass at Night and Breach of Probation.
Forrest was remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre last night, pending today’s Court appearance.
